Rhyme : and Reason got off poorly and was weakly ridden, but finished fast and would have won in another stride. Getchel ran a dull race and did not like the going. Lona S. tired in it. Fannie Knox liked the mud, showed the most speed throughout and won eased up. Katie Gibbons was in her own going and ran to her best form. Aline S. showed improved form in the going. Jean Gravier was badly ridden and taken the long way. Aransas was off badly and weakly ridden, but closed up very fast in the stretch. Helen Hay showed improvement. Edna Kenner was off badly, made up a lot of ground and went to the leaders in the stretch, then tired from her efforts. Scratched— 39161 Cellulose, 107. Burke Cochran finished going fast, sneaked in between Dr. Kier and Deutschland and, catching Troxler napping on Dr. Kier, won out by the narrowest of margins. Dr. Kier seemed to have the race well in hand when Troxler eased him up. Deutschland raced under restraint for six furlongs, but was taken in deep going and suffered from bumping with Dr. Kier at the head of the stretch, but tired and did not run his race. Pettijohn got off badly. Bas dOr floundered in the going. Overweights — Dr. Kier, 5 pounds. Burke Cochran, show, 6 to 1. Dr. Kier, show, 7 to 10. Deutschland, show, 1 to 4. Lady Strathmore ran a. good race and improved rather unexpectedly. Sheehan allowed South Breeze "to fall too far out of it early and she never got up again. Jack Young seemed to flounder in the mud and was given an easy race. W. B. Gates quit badly. Overweights— W. B. Gates, 2 pounds. Light Opera, show, 1 to 2. Lady Strathmore, show, 4 to 5. Jake Weber showed all his usual speed and was af home in the going, but tired at the end.
