Right and True followed the pacemaker closely for three furlongs, then ran into the lead, which he increased when straightened for home, but was unexpectedly driven out right at the end. Irish Jewel, in close quarters directly after the start, appeared unable to hold his position in the first quarter and came into the stretch wide, but was making up the lost ground very fast in the final furlong. Neither One, suddenly improved, went up to the winner on the far turn and held on unusually well in the last quarter. Armeath was always outrun and in the final drive to the wire he only held his position. Benmora showed considerable early speed and was probably short. Blue and Orange got away poorly. Margra- d viate was palpably unfit and pulled up very sore. - I Scratched— 3S80*62Schoharie, 105; 38520 Ran After, 103; 36086 Semper Vivax, 100. | Corrected weights— Irish Jewel, 106. _ Right and True, show, 3 to 5. Winner — B. c, by Golden Garter — Miss Maxim trained by E. L. Graves. | Went to post at 2:55. At post 2 minutes. Start good. Won easily; second driving. Golden Maxim has trained into a crack three-year-old. He took the track at the start and led throughout. The field closed up on him at the end of seven furlongs, but only on sufferance, as he came away decisively when straightened for the wire. Carbuncle, on the inside, moved up fast on the turn and into the stretch and finished out gamely under Mc-Cues vigorous ride. River Pirate was going so fast on the stretch turn that he ran up to the winner and had to pull up. He appeared like coming on in earnest when fairly settled for home, but Hicks allowed him to swerve and throw away second money. Torchlight, compelled to go wide on the last turn, finished going fast. Bon Mot went a good seven furlongs and failed to stay. Circus made up a lot of ground in the last three furlongs. Surmise ran a bad race. Homestead quit at the end of seven furlongs. Johnson — Virgie Johnson trained by W. C. Rollins. Went to post at 3:20. At post 1 minute. Start fain Won driving; second easily. Akela broke running and cut across the field, seriously interfering with the favorite. He then made all the running, the pace being comparatively slow, and a close stretch turn v gained him enough ground to last out the -journey after standing a long and stiff drive. Mackey Dwyer was the worst treated horse that has been seen in many a long day. Every horse in the race took a crack at him. He was running into pockets and repeatedly pulling up and finally went around the field on the stretch turn, where he was carried disastrously wide. He finished very fast under punishment, but could not quite get up and Was much the best horse. Stroller went well throughout. Stamping Ground was poorly ridden, tiring In the final stretch drive. Her Jockey appeared to be more intent on worrying the favorite and keeping him in a secure pocket than In improving his position. Hackensack showed a good turn of speed for seven frulongs and was easing up at the finish. Scratched— 392052The Carmelite, 114; 39096 General Prig, 109; 33256 Extravaganza, 104. Went to post at 3:45. At post 6 minutes. Start fair. Won driving; second handily. Plater was well favored by the start, forced the pace throughout and, after a long and terrific drive of fully three furlongs, outstayed The Musketeer, displaying unexpected gameness at the end when plied with the whip. The Musketeer failed to get away in his stride and the effort to join issue with the winner took a lot out of him. He ran a high-class race and forced Plater along a furlong in ten and three-fifths seconds on the turn. He was also under the additional disadvantage of being on the outside. Operator, a good horse right now, finished very fast and was rapidly overhauling the leaders. Toscan closed a big gap in the last half. Demurrer retired early. Winner — B. c, by Loyalist — Duchess trained by F. Brown. Went to post at 4:15. At post 3 mnutes. Start straggling. Won handily; second easily. Seymour looks and ran like a good colt, obtained a good lead at the start and made the most of his advantage, stalling off a strong challenge from Collector Jessup when a furlong out and was coming away fast at the end. Collector Jessup failed to get away on even terms and in working into a contending position was seriously interfered with, but when moving up fast and nearly lapped on the winner the latter bore out and Collector Jessup fell back several lengths, finally coming on the outside and all but passed Seymour in the stretch. Tim Payne ran a remarkably good race and was a sharp contender to the stretch after interfering with the favorite on the turn. Monet finished a good fourth easing up and must be of some account. Cascine will show to better advantage in longer races. Masedo was crossed by the winner at the half and nearly thrown, destroying any chances of his winning. Damon was lucky and had clear sailing, finished out the last quarter gamely and was probably the best. Many Thanks made the running and always appeared to be the winner, tiring in the last few strides. Tristesse, in between the first two, was crowded out the last fifty yards when they closed in on her and she was going faster than either the end. Leipsic should improve and was buffeted about considerably in the last quarter. Mennenfield ran a good race after being crowded on the stretch turn. Wyefield, away badly, closed a tremendous gap and finished like a streak. Guy Park was also running past horses in the stretch. Calcutta is highly tried, ran green and had no chance at the start. Roue an improved horse, went to the front quickly when straightened out for home and gamely stalled off Highlanders rush at the end. The latter worked through a rough journey to the stretch, where he finished going fast. Courtmaid was rough back early in the race and came fast at the end from a long way back. Rostand, a slow beginner in a big field, was repeatedly interfered with. Tioga was nearly left and made up ground throughout. Julia Junkin is a fast one evidently and may have been short.
