HARLEM NOTES. McChesney was backed down a half point last night in B. J. Wellers future book on the Harlem National, and now E. E. Smath-ers horse is an overwhelming favorite at 3J to i. There is no decided second choice. »Weller is laying 15 to 1 bar one./ Lucien Appleby was second choice before - his, race yesterday, but he has gone back to l£ to 1, and now is on the same mark with Linguist, Belles Commoner, Allan-a-Dale, Au Revoir and Flying Torpedo. Y Next to the favorite, Esherin, Lendin and Monarka were the best backed horses last night. After receiving a tjet telegraphed from Latonia Weller cut Esherins price from 50 to 30, Hernando went back from 20 to 30 to 1 after his poor race yesterday. T. C. McDowell arrived at Harlem Park I yesterday with his fine stable of sixteen horses from Latonia. He declared he will start both Allan-a-Dale and Monarka in the Harlem National and made no secret of expecting to win the big race, on Saturday with his four-year-old colt, which will be ridden by Crowhurst. Port Royal showed up yesterday as a candidate for Harlem National honors, arriving from Toronto for Saturdays 0,000 handicap. He is owned by "Doc" Streett, is in at 10S pounds, and will be ridden by Battiste. Colonel A. W. Hamilton, presiding judge, is expected here today or tomorrow. Clay Brothers stable will reach Harlem Park Saturday. They have no entry in the Harlem National, but some good ones in the M. Lewis Clark and Graduate Stakes.
