The first three fought it out through the last eighth and were driving to the limit. Hand-more got up just in time. Marshal Ney would have been first in another stride. Miss Fleischmann was doing her best and ran in improved form. Blue Darter was a keen contender, but went to his knees at the eighth post in the stretch and almost threw his rider. Reservation made a strong bid on the far turn, but had to go all around his field and the effort told on him at the end. Silk Cord was raced into exhaustion chasing the winner and tired at I the end. Golden Cottage was waited with until in the last eighth, where Munro brought him up and, catching Fitzbrillar tiring, came away with ease in the closing strides. Fitzbrillar was used up too much in the first part of the race and weakened when the pinch came. Khaki was slow to begin, but finished fast. Golden Cottage crossed Joe Lesser in the stretch and the latter had to be taken up. Pluck lacked her former speed.
