IRISH LAD WILL START. New York, June 13. — The Westbury Stable won the the Brooklyn Derby today with Whorler, and next Saturday will try to win the American Derby with Irish Lad. This afternoon Harry Payne Whitney and Herman B. Duryea confirmed the information published in Daily Racing Form Thursday morning that they would ship Irish Lad to Chicago either next Wednesday evening or the following morning. While the Westbury Stables string comprises only two horses it .has two trainers, J. W. Rogers, looking after the American Derby candidate and John Madden, caring for Whorler. Acefull, which ran in the English Derby in the colors of Herman B. Duryea, was the only other horse j in the stable. All three colts were purchased of Madden. Irish Lad and Acefull proved themselves "good racehorses, while Whorler was classed a gold brick. Madden protested and maintained the contrary. Having run second to Africander in the Belmont and won the Brooklyn Derby Whorlers performances this year are conceded to constitute something of a triumph for Madden. It is also noteworthy that Blackstock, winner of the Excelsior Handicap; Gunfire, winner of the Metropolitan Handicap; Irish Lad, winner of the Brooklyn Handicap and Broadway Stakes, "and Whorler, todays victor, which carried the colors of William C. Whitney, and those of the stable in which his son is a partner, were developed by Madden who backed Whorler today and influenced the owners to do likewise. Madden is enthusiastic about the chances of Irish Lad at Washington Park, but one of John A. Drakes candidates is expected to be troublesome. He says Savable and Enoch Wishard are a combination to be respected if not feared. August Belmonts Magistrate won his fourth consecutive victory when he galloped home an easy winner of the Tremont Stakes at Gravesend this afternoon. He carried 129 pounds and won in a romp. A meeting between him, Broomstick and Hamburg Belle would prove a great contest between two-year-olds. T. J. Gallagher.
