Ben Hullum was thrown to his Knees at the three-"eighths post when in a contending position. There was a lot of crowding on the back-stretch and the race was hardly truly run. Claude hugged the rail, saving ground on both turns for the first mile and three-eighths, was then taken around his field, overhauled the tiring leaders in the last eighth and won going away fast. Monsieur Beaucaire went wide on the turns, but wore down the leaders one by one and appeared to have the race won up to the last eighth, where he began to tire. He was probably a trifle short. Sioux Chief, after being taken all over the track in the early stages, made up much ground in the stretch run and was rapidly overhauling the leaders at the end. Deutschland ran a winning race for nine furlongs. Au Revoir raced with him under a choking pull, but had nothing left when called on strongly. Jack Young ran his race and had no mishaps. Start good. Won driving; second easily. Macy was well rated in behind the pacemaker and given a strong finish. Bridwell caught Booker napping on Taby Tosa and just did snatch victory from him. Taby Tosa was allowed to loaf in the early stages, but closed up ground fast and wore Maud Gonne down in the stretch drive. He appeared to be winning easily when eased up, but came again under the whip when Booker saw Macy and was wearing the winner down. Maud Gonne tired and is far from her best form. Hilee was under a pull to the stretch and then ran away from his field when they tried to close on him. Sweet Dream chased the winner with great resolution and had Wilson hand rode her at the end instead of going to his whip and allowing her head to drop, the result might have been different.
