Bardolph ran a cracking good race considering the weight he carried. He showed much speed and under a mild drive stood off Orontes determined challenge in the final sixteenth. The latter was under a hard drive all through the last quarter and was much the best of the others. Ahola tired palpably in the last eighth struggle. Proceeds found the heavy going just to his liking, displayed keen speed throughout and never left the result in doubt. He is a high class colt on a soft or muddy track. Flo Bob easily held the others safe. He made a stout effort to wear down the winner in the final eighth under keen punishment, but was not good enough. Peter Paul ran his usual honest race. He ran into a contending position just before turning for home, but tired palpably under a hard drive in the final eighth struggle. Batts appeared unable to extend himself freely in the going. Auditor set a hot pace for his stable companion in the first three furlongs and then fell away beaten. Lonsdale showed scant speed and evidently doesnt like a soft or heavy track. Winner— B. c, by Spendthrift— Intacta trained by R. McMillan. Went to post at 4:30. At post 3 minutes. Start good. Won driving; second easily. Jack Rattlin ran a surprisingly good race. He showed improvement, tiptoed the field all the way and, under a drive in the final sixteenth, had enough left to stall off Gold Bells determined challenge. There was no early pace, the race being run to suit a sprinter and mudder like the winner. Gold Bell was the victim of a weak ride when the deciding test came. Reed allowed him to swerve slightly in the closing strides, but at that he was fast wearing down the winner, finishing resolutely on his own courage. Flying Ship faltered in the final eighth, but ran to her best form at that. Bad News was thoroughly beaten when turning for home. The other three were never serious contenders. Echo Dale showed much speed, but tired fast when challenKed by the winner. Evelyn Byrd as usual showed much speed, but carried it for on;six furlongs. Little Duchess II. about ran her race.
