LOCAL TURF GOSSIP. Mose Goldblatt was greatly dissatisfied with the ride put up by Adams on Brief in the third race, and had no hesitancy in informing the rider so in rather strong language after the finish. Later Goldblatt tried to have the judges substitute another rider on Rainland, but no available jockey could be thought of on such short notice, and he finally decided to let Adams ride, remarking at the same time that he could not ride the colt any worse than he did Brief. Later in the paddock another wordy discussion occurred between the owner and jockey, in which Adams said as he was leaving for the post on Rainland: "You can bet Ill ride this fellow all the way and whip him every foot of the route." True to his word, Adams drew his whip at the barriers rise and never let up on the colt until in the last sixteenth, where he swerved slightly, and after straightening him out he began whipping again until the finish was reached. Goldblatt later complained to the judges with a request that they look into the matter. Galathee was made the medium of a heavy plunge in the second race, and his odds of : 100 to 1 reduced to 15 at post time. The horse showed very little in the race to warrant the heavy backing. i Gregor K. ran in improved fashion and held on much longer than heretofore and forced Sidney C. Love, to which he was ! giving five pounds, to a hard drive to over- take him and barely beat him out. Boots and Hollenback have sold Sanetomo at private terms to Woodford and Everman. The distance, one mile, should assure a fair test and give a good line on the stamina of some of the youngsters. Of those which will likely line up to the barrier Proceeds, carrying top weight, is the only one that has negotiated the distance successfully so far, but this by no means signifies that the, others cannot run well over a long distance of ground. Many horsemen are of the belief that English Lad is Proceeds equal over a mile route, and a number are of the opinion that Dick Bernards great flight of speed should easily make him stick out a mile route.
