At post 4 minutes. Start good. Won driving; second the same. Emergency outstayed For Luck after they had fought each other for the lead from .the start. For Luck went wide on the turn and that about beat her. Monet ran a cracking good race and after swerving badly when a furlong out was straightened out and closed up very fast. Toi San, away poorly, loomed up dangerously when beginning the final quarter and all her chances were destroyed when she was crossed and bumped for the remainder of the journey. Blytheness ran a good race. Eagle finished well. Sourire got away very badly and had no chance with a stable boy on her back. Scratched 42464 Juvenal Maxim, 117; 42466 Mordella, 94. Winner Br. h, by Pirate of Penzance Right Wild trained by F. Burlew. Went to post at 3:50. At post 2 minutes. Start good. Won easily; second driving. Wild Pirate, lightly weighted and favored by the soft gding and distance of ground, went out at the start to make the running and nothing really ever got near enough to him to menace his lead, practically coming home alone. Highlander, suddenly improved, due probably to the cuppy tooting, finished with a tremendous rush and saved second place right on the post. Ethics, the distance and long stretch being in his favor, ran his race and was second best, but tired right at the end after a long and trying effort to beat the winner and, moreover, was caught napping in the last fifty yards. Hoodwink was sent along after Wild Pirate in the early running and the effort told on her in the stretch run. Early Eve went a good mile and followed the winner closely for that distance, but failed to stay. McWilliams finished well. Scratched 42403A11 Gold, 106. The horses were placed by the judges: Oarsman, 1; Payne, 2; Bob Hilliard, 3. Stonewall liked the difficult going and, gradually moving up on the turn for home, finished with a great burst of speed, but boring into the rail, crowded the favorite and was disqualified. Oarsman, badly ridden, was taken up after beating the barrier and was repeatedly pocketed and interfered with and in the last fifty yards thrown against the fence, then pulling up, came around and just failed to get up and was much the best. Payne was waited with and made good with a fast stretch run, but was pinned in against the rail by Stonewall in the last fifty yards. Akela showed a lot of speed and after being prominent in the first stages held on well at the end, but bearing out, crowded Oarsman and was also disqualified. Squid finished a fair fifth, but was not placed. Bob Hilliard, which finished sin eased up last, was placed third.
