Won in a canter; second easily. , Brennus, particularly favored by the stiff going, followed the early pacemaker closely to 1 the stretch, where he rushed to the front, winning off by himself and can beat much better ones. Nullah was a prominent contender throughout and finished an easy going second. , JUilouon, a slow beginner and shuffled back at the start, closed a big gap and finished with t a rush. Boutonniere tired badly at the end after being well up throughout. Myrtle H. finished going well. Lunga got away badly and tired after making up a lot of ground. Grand Sachem is still in poor form. Bassenzo made the running for nearly five furlongs j before he retired, was palpably short and can beat this kind when fit. Overweights Nullah, 3 pounds. Brennus, show, 1 to 2. Nullah, show, 3 to 1. Cook, after running in close attendance on the pacemaker, drew up when straightened for home, and in a long and gamely sustained drive, just lasted long enough to win and ran in much improved form. Young Pepper was always a sharp contender and put up a fast and game effort. Avenger, as usual, began slowly, fell far in the rear in the early running and seemed to be out of serious contention to the stretch turn, where he commenced to move up through the stretch with an electrical rush, was clearly the best and will beat this kind easily over a longer distance of ground. Hoceo showed sudden improvement. Atwood held on better than usual, after a superior display of early speed. The Cure tired badly in the last quarter and was evidently anchored in the going. Miss Ringlets was buffeted about considerably. Instructor can do better, but seems unable to run on this track. Scratched 42565 Dusty Miller, 105. Overweights Instructor, 3 pounds. Andrew B. Mountebank, lucky and vigorously ridden, raced into the lead on the far turn and easily held his field safe to the finish, was much the best and is very good at present. Evander, improved and suited by the stiff going, held a forward position throughout and stayed well in the closing drive. Oro Viva, away poorly and inadequately handled, made up up a lot of ground and finished gamely and ran in improved form. Merwan held on steadily and was close up from start to finish. Lurene came from a long way back at the end. Past Master, nearly left, finished running fast. Bedner got away badly. Mr. Phinizy, knocked about from the start and particularly when Dora I. and Oscar Tolle fell, hardly performed up to expectations and was never a serious contender. Winner Br. g, by Fresno Fairystone trained by A. B. Pomeroy. Went to post at 3:25. At post 2 minutes. Start good. Won driving; second easily. Fossil, getting away in the lead, forced the pace throughout and won all the way, but was driving hard and boring over to the inside at the end and was probably lucky to win today. Faulconbridge, probably favored by the stiff footing, was reserved within striking distance to the stretch, where he moved up on the inside and when gaining fast, was frequently impeded by Bullman pulling over on him and in the last half dozen strides, when he appealed like getting up, was nearly put over the fence and should have won today. Divina disliked the track and was unable to stride freely, but closed up at the end with her usual whirlwind rush. Modicum, after a vain effort to keep upon terms with the winner, dropped back into the ruck where he held on in steady fashion and ran a game race. Incubator tired after going six furlongs in close attendance on the leaders apparently hard held and is evidently not yet keyed up. Namtor is in great form, but getting away badly and seriously shut off in the early runing, he was never a factor until in the final half furlong, where he closed very fast. Jockey Club showed brilliant speed, which he sustained for seven furlongs in going he dislikes. Horatius favors a fast track and acts as if stale. Fossil, show, 3 to 5. Faulconbridge, show, 3 to 5. Divina, show, 8 to 5. Modicum, show, 3 to 5. FIFTH RACE 7-8 Mile. Purse 00. 3-year-olds. Allowances. Winner Ch. g, by Martagon Nekomis trained oy E. Wright. Went to post at 3:53. At post 1 minute. Start good. Won driving; second the same. Martinmas, after trailing the field for the first furlong, suddenly rushed into the lead on the inside and forced such a hot pace that the others were all driving to keep up. A wide turn lost him considerable ground and at the end he was driving to beat Arcade, but was undoubtedly best, track conditions considered. Arcade held a brief lead when he was taken up and ran in close quarters to the stretch, where he came along very fast next to the inside rail and just failed to get up and is a coming good one. Dolly Hayman trailed the leaders and in consequence had a lot in reserve when straightened out for home, and but for being carried very wide she might have won, as she finished like a cyclone. Glenrtevis, a surprisingly improved horse, ran well up from the start. Nervator failed to stay and the going was evidently responsible for his defeat. He can do much better than this. Start good for all but Searcher. Won driving; second easily. Forest King, lucky and in rare form, raced into the lead at the half where he was passed by the favorite but came again in the stretch run and outstayed him in a long driving finish. Lord Melbourne went badly in the betting and, being carried wide on the first turn, he trailed close up to the far turn, where he went to the front but tiring badly and swerving in the final furlong he unexpectedly succumbed to the winner. Lacy Crawford, inadequately handled, ran a good steady third from start to finish and was going well in the closing drive. Allopath held a brief lead on sufferance and then fell away. Scratched 431923Rosarie, 101. No show betting on first three. Allopath, show, 3 to 5.
