WEEKLY SWEEPSTAKES AT ASCOT. Will Add ,000 to a Race Every Wednesday Gilpin Is Bid Up Powell Fined. Los Angeles, Cal., January 2. Manager J. W. Brooks announced today that hereafter every Wednesday the association will give a sweepstakes with ,000 added for a mile and over, to enter nnd 0 to start. John Lamlert, partner in the firm of Charles Gates and Co., was at the track today and will spend the remainder of the winter here. B. Powll was fined 0 for cutting off Notter on Gilpin on the far turn. - Gilpin was bid up 1906.sh00 over his entered selling price of 00 by Tommy Griffin, but was lwught in by owner J. L. McGlnnis. The crowds here are increasing daily. The sport is at its best;
