GOOD SPORT AT OAKLAND. Favorites, However, Fare Badly Angleta Wins for Schreiber Jockey Hartys First Winner. Oakland, Cal., January 2. The present excellent sate of the Oakland track, notwithstanding the recent prolonged wetting it received, excites the most favorable comments. Todays card, although lacking in special features, produced sport of a superior class. Favorites fared badly, however; only one outstanding public choice in Princess Ti-tania rewarding its backers. Barney Schreiber was again in evidence with a victory for his Sain filly, Angleta, after many trials. Radtke annexed his winning one a day mount. Knapp, bis most formidable opponent for jockey honors, being conspicuous by his absence from the saddle during the afternoon. Harty, the Steubenbord stable rider, -scored his first success on Prominence In the third race, incidentally encompassing the defeat of the pronounced favorite, Grasscutter. The ramor that the stewards were Investigating the running of Possart received little credence. G. II. Keene left for Memphis yesterday to take charge of the stables big band of two-year-olds and prepare them for a spring campaign. Horsemen express themselves as glad to get back to Oakland. It is asserted that at night time there is a difference in tempetature between Oakland and Ingleside of at least fifteen degrees, due to location ot the latter track near the ocean. The cold winds and fogs at Ingleside in the evening made the place uncomfortable for men and horses alike. The jockey club announces that the turnstile count yesterday showed an attendance of nearly 15,000, which is a high-water mark for California racing.
