Storma, the full liister to Alsono, was the successful medium of a mild "killing" in todays opening scramble for nou-descripts. The layers paidout many thousands over the fillys win at the lucrative odds of ::o to 1. Some got as good as 50- to 1. Favorites, however, still continue to hold their own, the plunging brigade profiting particularly when the short-priced Iimklu, Ksheriu and Arestallator scored. Much dissatisfaction was expressed at the improvement shown in the running of Esherin and Graziallo. Both were heavily supported notwithstanding preceding bad races. To the surprise of many. Fisher Boy, at lives, held a prominent position in the market to the exclusion of the first and second choices. Head Dance and Massa, in the fifth, both of them finally trailing the fortunate outsider home. Dr. J. Grant Lyman was a visitor at the Oakland track this afternoon aud expressed both surprise and admiration at the magnitude of racing here and the perfection in detail that marks its management. J. Ranch and bride are here on their honeymoon. The Vanderbilt jockey married Miss Edith Glass, or Sacramento, last Saturday and will leave shortly for Krance to resume riding. Dick Williams left Ascot Park in good standing. J. W. Brooks, manager of the Los Angeles track, wired to that effect today. The Gushing and Barbce stable came in tonight from Ascot. It is said that Trior received ,000 as his fee for riding Dr. Lcggo to victory in the Burns Handicap. John Mackey, formerly manager of J. B. Haggins Uancho del Paso, leaves California shortly to assume charge of that owners Elmeiidorf Stud In Kentucky. It has been definitely announced that jockey W. Kuapp will ride for E. It. Bradley during the coming season on Metropolitan tracks. W. B. Jennings has bought San Nicholas at private sale from "Iackey" Ryan. Thos. 11. Silver Wedding and Ha, two prominent Oaks candidates, arrived at Oakland yesterday from Ascot. Former jockey J. McCarthy bid up Equorum Rex from 0O to ,500 after- that horses win yesterday. He was retained.
