PUBLIC HAS A WINNING DAY AT OAKLAND. Deutschlands Fast Race Bearcatcher is Ailing Proper to Rest Bonner is Reinstated. San Francisco. Cal., February 15. The success of four favorites and a second and third choice, both heavily backed, served to put a big crowd in good humor at Oakland today. Messrs. .T. Grant Lyman and, AV. E. Applegate brought off big winning coups in their respective representatives, Graceful and Quickrich, and Barney Schreiber is reported to have won ,000 over the victory of Deutschland. The noted New York horseman, J. B. Brady, greatly admired the big Sain Derfargilia horse and it is within the bounds of possibility that lie may acquire him for stud purposes. Graceful was bid up from 00 to ,000 by .T. B. Smith, but was retained. Jim Neils Corrigan-bred mare, St. Agnes, foaled twins to Yankee Doodle today, but both died. Bearcatcher is ailing. A veterinary lias been in constant attendance on him for the past two weeks. It is doubtful if the great St. George horse will start again this season. 1roper will be retired and freshened up for the coming eastern campaign after next Saturdays race in the lalace Hotel Stakes. A carload of horses from Ascot arrived at Oakland today, including Br. Leggo, El Chihuahua, Sir Wilfred, Money Muss, Hoot Mon and Brigand. The California Jockey Club stewards have reinstated S. Bonner, the colored jockey, and he will resume riding as soon as the formality of procuring a license is over.
