BARON FINOTS "GENERAL PURPOSE" HORSE. The following story is told of Baron Fiuot, the aged patron of steeplechasing in France, who died a few days ago. Baron Flnot was standing on the balcony of his club in the Rue Hoyale with one of his friends, who said to him: "Is that your carriage waiting at the door? It appears to me that It is your horse between the shafts." "Yes, that is Persano," repled the Baron, "and I shall win a descent steeplechase with him at Vincennes tomorrow." And, sure enough, Baron Finot drove up to Vincennes racecourse on the following day in the same carriage, drawn by the same horse, and when Persano had been unharnessed, rode him easily to victory.
