La., February 14. The heavy track was responsible for the numerous withdrawals at Crescent larl; this afternoon. The feature of the racing was Jack Martins riding. He piloted Hale-shed, Captain Bob and Van Ness to victory. On Captain Boh he used rough tactics and repeatedly interfered with Footlights Favorite. Kadtke, on the latter, claimed a foul, which the judges did not" allow. Ilaleshed, in the youngster race, showed improved form and led his opponents all the way, winning by a comfortable margin. After Norwood Ohios victory in the first race he was bid up $."fH over his entered price of $"00 by Jake Marklein, but was retained. Charles Bowman eaine over from City Park and attempted a betting coup on Shenandoah and Creole Girl in the first two races. Both finished third. For disobedience at the post in the first race, jockey Noone was suspended for one week by the starter. G. C. Bennett left tonight for California, where he will remain for a month. Phil Finch is given top weight of 130 pounds in the Bush Cup. He is conceding ten pounds to Little Scout and fourteen to his stable mate, Rams Hon Shipment today for jlot Springs included J. 0. The steeplechase was declared off and numerous scratches in the other races reduced the fields materially. Three choices were successful. . The victories of Rockaway and St. Joseph brought the Daly family into the limelight. Johnny Daly, son of M. J. Daly, in whose name and colors Rock-away and St. Joseph run, had the mounts and his , . good handling of both made amends in a way for some of the poor exhibitions he put up last week. Harry Gardner today disposed of the three-year-old i filly Favor! tu to Mrs. M. Cook. The price paid was i 00. The owners of New Amsterdam reported to the officials that the horse was suffering from abdominal rupture. This they think was caused by a blunder which New Amsterdam made at the water jump in his last race. It will be some time before he will round to again. In the absence of Judge Trevelyan, who Is still confined to his home with malaria, nothing further lias been done in the Wiskard-Rudolpk-Evans-Most-Rabb cases. It is said that the officials are now in possession of the name of the person who put the bank roll for the crooked book operated by Gerald Evans and W. H. Rudolph and that some further . action will be, forthcoming.
