NOTES OF THE TURF. II. B. Duryea has returned to New York from his outing In Tennessee and Mississippi. Robert A. Pinkerton is spending a couple of weeks iu California. He Is now at Ascot Park. Roy L. Baker is to have active .management of the Country Clubs meeting at Brookllne, Mass. Heno, the defeated favorite for the American Derby in 1902; is now in the stud at Silver Brook, New Jersey. Robert L. Geary and Samuel Wllletts are two prominent New Yorkers who are expected to go in for steeplechasing. Tim Donohnc, the steeplechase jockey, has no engagement for this year. He will. begin Hiding as a free lance at the Bennings meeting. The plans of the United Hunts Racing Association are still in abeyance. Until it is learned whether Morris Park will be available for a meeting this year nothing will be announced. Phil May. "Mr.. .Cottons" candidate for the Grand National Steeplechase, made his first start of this year in the Stewards Steeplechase at Gatwick a few days ago. He was ridden by Jimmy Owens. He fell a mile from home. The poor showing, however, has not affected the odds for the big race at the end of March. The Brooklyn Jockey Club has made no announcement of the date for the Brooklyn Handicap, but the Morning Telegraph says "horsemen hereabouts take It for granted that the Brooklyn Handicap will be run .on the opening day of the. first spring meet-.ing at the Gravesend track." Why take It for granted? The announcement will etme iu ample time.
