COUSIN KATE HAS SPEED TO SPARE. New Orleans, La., March 9. Cousin Kate showed a fine burst of speed in the feature race at the old track today. She led Invincible and Van Ness a half dozen lengths as long as she was kept going, and, won eased up by three lengths. The track was lumpy and slow, but despite that she ran the first half in 49?. Her performance today throws a strong sidelight on the speed shown by the Derby candidate. Disobedient, when on his first out a few days ago lie hung to her for the first quarter, was taken back, then came on and beat her out in a six furlongs race. Jockey Aubuchon, lost the last race on Rolla through carelessness. He seemed to be winning easily when a sixteenth out, but let the horse loaf a bit, and when Besterling came at him lie could not get the colt to going soon enough and was beaten out a half length.
