Ben Lear got away running and easily showed the most speed for the first five furlongs, then tired" but, being hard ridden, just lasted long enough. Cottage Maid ran forwardly throughout and, under energetic handling, finished fast wearing the winner down. Bob May ran in suddenly Improved form, suffered from interference and finished gamely. Won easily; second the same. Mike Sutton, a good colt, was given a skillful ride, raced Maxim Gorky into subjection and came away in the last furlong. Maxim Gorky, hard ridden all the way, ran a good race, but Radtke. bore over iti the stretch, impeding Almas Pet, for which his mount was disqualified. Won driving; second easily, naughty was outpaced in the early stages, but moved up fast at the stretch entry after going wide, caught All Black in the last sixteenth and outgamed her in the final strides. All Black followed Ala Russell closely for the first half, then ran Into the lead, but tired unexpectedly when hard ridden. Ala Russell showed the most early speed, but tired. Water Mirror bad no mishaps and was not good enough Duchess Ollic ran a fairly good race. The latter suffered from much interference, ran a good race anil was best. Pickles showed much speed for three-quarters and Cherry was responsible for most of the interference with Legatee.
