NOTES OF THE TURF. Joseph A. Murphy lias been appointed Judge and handicapper for the spring meeting at Bennings. Another hearing on the anti-betting bill will be had before the codes committee of the New York legislature next Wednesday. Nlnepln, the four-year-old half brother to Oarsman, is leliig schooled over the steeplechase course at ISennings. He jumps well. Three stakes to bo decided at the Pimlico spring meeting will close Marcli .il and a fourth event will close April 14, two days before the meeting opens. With. - the passing of the brief cold spell, the trainers at Gravesend are busy again. The McLaughlin horses are going great guns and the probabilities are tliat they will be in the front rank at Bennings. Count Rufus, rit 25 to 1, won the National Hunt Steeplechase at Warwick, England, Thursday. Port-light II, ridden by Craig Wadsworth, an American, was a close second. The race was for amateur riders. Its value to the winner" was $.1,000.
