JUDGE TREEN "WINS THE JUVENILE STAKES. Lady of Navarre is Defeated at Crescent Fork New Orleans Racing Gossip. New Orleans, La., March 10. The Juvenile stakes, the most important and richest fixture foe two-year-olds run at the City Park meeting and the feature race of the programme at the new track tills afternoon, was won by Judge Trecn. Among those which finished back of him was Lens, hitherto rated by horsemen as the best colt here. Judge Treen ran in the colors of J. E. Dearlioefer, of Louisville, Ky., who purchased him a few days ago from J. B. Lew-man. In his previous starts in the National Stakes and the Louisiana Stakes Judge Treen was badly Interferred witli and did not show Ills true form. One of the largest crowds of the meeting was present and the twenty-two books that drew on had all the business they could attend to. The track, while not deep, was lumpy and slow. Jack Phillips received word from jockey Ililde-brand this morning that he would be unable to ride Jack Dolan in the City Park Derby. Phillips wired to New York to Frank ONeill asking him to come on and ride his colt. In the event that ONeill not lcing able to come here Landry will probably have the mount. M. T. Danahcr has disposed of his half interest in Nevada to Z. N. Kenton, who was in partnership with him In the mare. Norbury which was being prepared for a "killing" by Green B. Morris, got the letter of his rider while being exercised this morning and ran away four miles. A story is going the rounds here that jockey Balrd will be placed In good standing by the Jockey Club. It is understood that he will ride for F. R. Hitchcock. In her race at Crescent Park today Lady Navarre failed to come up to the exieetations of those who have been choosing her as the Derby winner. She finished behind Logistilla, St. Valentine and Macy Jr. She was conceding them alL a lot of weight, but was decisively beaten, quitting after running prominently to the stretch bend. St. Valentine, consistent horse, has raced against nearly every Derby candidate here, and has found Guiding Star the hardest proposition lie has had to tackle, though Hallowmas, too, has a good race against him. Macy Jr. had such a pull in the weights over the filly today that it looks like she should certainly hold him safe at the Derby weights, but there are a half dozen which seem to have it on him by a decided margin. Guiding Star was worked a mile before the first race today. The track was quite a bit ff its best speed, but he handily went around once in 1:41. the fractions as follows: 125, 50t. 1:10s, 1:30, 1:. Ben Hodder worked after Guiding Star and just as handily, though he did not work quite as fast. His fractional time was 125. 25$. ."Si, 51J, l:04i 1:17, 1:45. He was ridden by Lucicu Lyne. Both horses carried Derby weights. Phil Chinn added to his breeding establishment today by the purchase of Judge Himes and the following mares: Cognomen, Fritzi Scheff, Hattie Kingston. Julia Arthur and Intrigue. He will ship the lot to a farm near Lexington, Ky. Monday. The two-year-old My Son was sold at auction in the paddock today to George Galvin, A. L. Astes trainer, for 00. W. M. Murray today received word of his reappointment as starter at Toronto. He also received a letter from Secretary A. R. Louden of the Hamilton Jockey Club saying that 150 new stalls arc being erected. Rainland merely wrenched an ankle in his race Friday and the veterinary says that after a rest he will be able to race again.
