Jack Lee went to the front at once, opened a winning lead on the far turn and held the race safe all the way. Belsay dropped back in the first furlong, but came again when straightened out for the final run and finished fast. Young Stephens showed speed, but was on the inside where the going was worst, was tiring at the end and driving to the limit to stall off Mclntyre. The latter ran fairly well. Pirate showed the way throughout and was never closely approached except by Tripoli and lie easily disposed of the latter. Miller seemingly did everything possible to keep Judge Nolan outside of the money, took him to the extreme outside at every jump and pulled in behind Tripoli in the last furlong, but had to come on finally. The latter moved up on the outside when lie made his run and covered more ground than any horse in the race. Gold Coin set a very fast pace and tired after going live furlongs. Double finished in deep going on the inside. Muffins was eased up In the last quarter after running well to the stretch. Girard was saved from the early pace and. did not move up until well around the far turn, then came through on the inside on the turn into the homestretch and, finishing fast, got up in the last two strides. Goldic swung to the middle of the track when making the turn into the homestretch and tired after getting to Glen-clare, but kept on gamely and lost because Nicol outrode Larsen. Prestige ran well throughout and was easily best of the others. Billy Woodard ran in improving form and finished fast and gamely. Major Carpenter was a forward contender all the way. Fugnrtha saved ground all the way, slipped through on the inside on the turn Juto the homestretch and raced Wild Irishman into defeat, but was tiring at the end and just managed to last long enough to stall off Merry George. The latter ran the best race of all, was on the outside all the way and covered more ground than the winner, finished with a rush and would have won in another stride. Clover Hampton ran well, but tired when called on. Wild Irishman showed much the most early speed, but quit when Nicol drew his whip. There was a jam at the half-mile ground and Covina fell and broke his leg. Charlie Dickson and Lieutenant Rice finished fast. Clifton Boy ran a good half. Scratched 00494 Father Tallent, 109. .
