Mabel Hollander, from a flying start, forced the pace and, after coming away with a clear lead in the stretch, eventually had to be driven out in a close finish. Handmaiden, away slowly, covered much ground and, closing a big gap, finished wearing the winner down. Xappa tired right at the end of vigorous forwanl contention. Ray Egan ran prominently and gamely from the start. Ocean Shore finished with a belated rush. Lugano got away poorly and was running on the extreme outside all the way. Byronerdale, well served by the cuppy going, trailed the pacemaker closely hard held for a mile and a half, then ran to the front and won off easing up. Expedient ran as if staling off, was reserved far in the rear for the first mile and made a game, but unavailing closing effort. Leila Hill, in the worst going throughout, tired right at the end and probably was not keyed up for such a long race. Mr. Farnum made the running on sufferance for a mile and a half and failed to stay. Overweights Leila Hill, 1 pound; Tomahawk, 2. - "I P7 THIRD RACE Futurity Course. 170 feet less than 3-4 mile. Lacene forced the pace from the start in the deepest going and was passed by Tocolaw in the stretch, but came again unexpectedly and wore the latter down. Tocolaw was reserved within striking distance of the pacemaker to the. stretch, where he flashed into the lead In an instant, was then pulled up and was not able to get to going again fast enough to stall off Lacenes game and "persistent finish. Llsaro ran well and outstayed the others In a long stretch drive. Don Donio, away poorly, loomed up on the last turn and then quit as It short. Ralbert was a prominent contender to the stietch, then dropped out and his race should be thrown out. Lily Golding was excused near post time and twenty minutes given for new bookmaking. Gateway, in a jam at the start and very seriously interfered with, steadily improved his position, finished with a belated rush and was much the best. Shady Lad, excessively urged Into forward early contention with the fast non-staying pacemaker, tired right at the end after appearing the winner midway of the stretch. Judge, from a flying start, forced the pace and held on gamely in the closing struggle, but swerving all over the track. Magrane, away badly and badly interfered with, was never able to get up. Soiifriere, shuffled to the rear on the first turn, trailed the others closely, then came along with a fast, but belated stretch sprint. Corn Blossom, on the inside in deep going throughout, ran a game race, but was stumbling In the last furlong under a bad ride. Bolo-man set a stiff pace for six furlongs before he tired. Cicely, a prominent contender for nearly seven furlongs, also tired right at the end. Wrenne was well up to the stretch. . Overweights Wrenne. 5 pounds.
