INTEREST IS ON THE AVANE. SMALL ATTENDANCE AT THE CLASHING NEW ORLEANS TRACKS YESTERDAY. New Louisiana Jockey Clubs Meeting Opens at the Old Track Seven Favorites Are Beaten at City Park. Now Orleans, La., March 19. Racing at Crescent Park today was conducted under the auspices of the New Louisiana Jockey Club. The conditions, however, are unchanged. It amounted to little else than a shift of title. The length of this meeting has not lieen definitely announced. The Western Jockey Club stewards at their December meeting allotted two weeks, hut at the March meeting it was decided that the club could have as many days as desired. The idea then being to parrallel the meeting at City Iark, which is scheduled to close March 31. Now, iv is said, the meeting may continue until April 14. The racing today was only ordinary. All favorites, with the exception of Cousin Kate, won. The attendance was not heavy, but the sixteen hooks had considerable business. With the defeat of seven favorites at City Park this afternoon, the talent received a jolt that they will remember for some time. The change in the track threw form followers off, some of the winners coming from the most unexpected quarters. The card was ordinary and the racing tame. Only fifteen books cut in and there was a noticeable falling off in the attendance. With the running of the two Derhys Interest in the sport here is somewhat sated. Harry Gardner has arranged to ship French Empress, Alderman Goebel and Floral King east. Gardners original plans were to send his horses from here to Louisville and from there to Latonin. Floral King is an eligible for the Queen City Handicap, the richest fixture offered in the west this year. If the horse does well he will be shipped back to Latonia to fill this engagement. James II. McCormick was to have departed with his stable for New York tonight, but was delayed on account of a washout on the road. He will take .Monterey and Wotan east for Albert Simons. Wot an did not do well here this winter and Simons was unable to get him to the post. Willie Shields shipped the horses belonging to himself and his father to New York this afternoon. There were fifteen in the lot. He reports having fold Ren Hodder to Paul Powers of New York for ,000, on condition that the colt ships safely and is delivered in Washington in sound condition. lie Kave Shunpike away, sold Black Enamel to Hugh .McCarren, Jr. for 00 and got 00 from a Chinese iiok named Moy Chuck for Black Water, which started in the second race. W. H. Snyder is negotiating for a contract with jockey Baird. He says he has the approval of the stewards of the Jockey Club to make a contract whereby he can have full control of the boy. If the boys natural guardians consent to these conditions then, says Mr. Snyder, the Jockey Club will approve the contract and the boy will be fully restored. Jockey Lyne has returned to his home in Lexing tun and Redfern left last night with the Shields party for New York. Archie Zimmer has purchased from R. L. Rogers A five years contract on apprentice rider Reidel. Zimmer has been trying to secure the lad since seeing him ride Perverse into second place in a race at Saratoga. The hoy had his second mount in a race on Vagary today and rode the mare into third place. Zimmer says he paid ,000 for the contract. The ltoy is fourteen years old.
