POOR SPORT AT OAKLAWN. Hot Springs, Ark., March 19. Continued cold weather and a heavy rack marred the sport at Oaklawn and kept the attendance down to the smallest numbers since the beginning of the meeting. Withdrawals were numerous, the handicap suffering most in tliis respect, only three horses going to the post. Jack Young ruled a 1 to 4 favorite in the Oct t ing and won iu keeping with the price. The only one regarded as having a chance to give him in .argument was Marshal Ncy and he might have done so If ills rider had used a little more energy. Jacksons effort on the Walker horse was decidedly weak and another exhibition of listless riding ou Ms part may not go unheeded by the officials. Jack Young was the only favorite to score during the afternoon. C. It. Ellison and jockey Sewell returned today from New Orleans. Uar-vey T. Woodruff, secretary of the Western j Jockey Club, was among todays arrivals. His mis-siou here he says Is simply one of pleasure and has no bearing on the turf situation. He will remain here for several days. Jockey Ilelgesen left yesterday iu company with Ilildcbrand for Bennings. Louis Cclla has purchased, at private terms, the contract on jockey Cherrys services from C. W. Givens. The loy has been showing great form of late and there are many who jtedict that he will become a good rider with a little more experience. The contract secured by Cella Is for three years. Jockeys L. Wilson and F. Burton were each lined .1 by the starter for disobedience at the post. Several horsemen and bookmakers, including "Whitey" Langdon will depart this week for Washington.
