ENGLISH STREET BETTING DOOMED. Street betting may be said to be doomed in England. A deputation of nine bishops has waited on Home Secretary Gladstone and urged the passage of the bill prohibiting this form of gambling on the horses. Mr. Gladstone expressed himself as thoroughly in sympathy with the measure, and it doubtless will soon become a law.
