As the day progressed, It got better and if no more rain fulls before tomorrow, it should be fast by the time the- first race lwglus. Favorites fared badly today, the exceptions being Friction, which won the opening race and Miltiades, winner of the third race at one mile. The latter was backed freely and was the shortest priced winner duriug the afternoon. Cotillion and Kings Guinea, the latter a recent arrival from Fort Erie and making his initial start here, quoted at 30 to 1, won their respective races In commanding style. Both were ridden by Aubu-clion. Mint Boy, which should have won his race yesterday with any kind of decent racing luck, landed his purse today and beat his conqueror of yesterday. Stroud also made good and showed that but for interference in his previous race, he would have been a dangerous contender on that occasion. The defeats of Devout, Fonsoluca and Principia were the chief surprises of the afternoon. The trio wore heavily backed by their owners and friends. Kings Guinea was bid up 00 over his entered price of like amount and bought by S. Louis. They are here to attend a meeting of the members of the license committee of the American Turf Association. Application from about 150 persons desiring licenses will be considered.
