TRAINER ATD JOCKEY ONEILL. Afteu trainer Frank ONeill had won Ills first race at Brighton Beach Thursday, starter Dade talked of jockey Frank ONeill with authoritative interest. He said: "I sent the boy away for his first winning mount. It was on Hottentot In the Club Members Handicap at the Fair Grounds In St. Loujs, in June, 1901. "I was patrol Judge nt the Fair Grounds," he continued, "and, I heard F. W. Holtgrewe, the horses owner, say the day before the race, that he would have to scratch Hottentot oh account of not being able to get a boy to ride him, and that he felt pretty badly about it as lie thought the colt had a good chance. I told him that there was. no use to do that as he could get a lad I knew. I had Frank ONeill in mind. Hottentot was entered to carry nlnety.three pounds, and ONeill was just about that weight. He had ridden a few races and while he had never won, I could tell he was a sharp kid and would make a good jockey. So I boosted him to Holtgrewe, with the result that he got the mount and rode a splendid race. Hottentot ran a fine raceand Jed all the way."
