ACCOUNTANT VERSUS BEN HODDER. Saratoga, N. Y., August 8. William Shields is being besieged with offers for his crack three-year-old Ben Hodder. The fact that The Commoner colt has two important stake engagements at this meeting, the Travers and the Derby, and that Shaw is reported to have said since he rode him yesterday that he was the best horse he had been astride this year, created a brisk competition for the youngster. "Diamond" Jim Brady, when he heard of the extravagant claims made on behalf of Ben Hodder, offered to bet 0,000 to 0,000 that his horse Accountant would beat the Shields colt at their first meeting. Shields wired his father the proposition and it is expected that the offer will be taken up by the plunging elder.
