SEATTLES MOST SUCCESSFUL MEETING. The meeting of the King County Fair Association at Seattle closed Monday last It embraced sixty-eight days of racing and was the most successful meeting ever held In the northwest. The purses were larger, the betting ring, for the first time in the history of the course, was open and consequently the attendance was larger and the betting better in every respect. The track was fast for the greatest number of days and some of the races were run in excellent time. Many of the horses that participated in the meeting will be sent to Vancouver, Spokane and Salem, where short meetings will be held, but the majority of them will be shipped to California to await the opening of the meetings at Oakland and Ascot Park. "It was a,.great disappointment to. the race-going public that Beareatcher was" not in condition To run here this season," says the Seattle Post Intelligencer. "T. G. Fergusons star performer was injured during a training gallop before the opening of the meeting and it was late before be got back into shape. Then his trainer decided to give him a good rest before taking him to Oakland and did not start him. Military Man is another fast one in Mr. Fergusons stable that did not start here, although he was eating oats at the Meadows all summer." In the course of Its comment on the meeting the same newspaper says: "Seattle has had a taste of the open ring and never again will a syndicate affair be tolerated here. It would be like going back to the styles of fifty years ago to again play against the old syndicate game. For the first time in the history of the track big operators who made big books and who pitted their wits against each other were seen operating here. The big bookmakers have all signified their intention of returning to Seattle next year, as have a large number of the horsemen."
