Rusk, also a quick beginner, was In nearest pursuit of the winner throughout, standing a remarkably game drive to save his position at the end. Pretension ran forwardly all the way, finished well and is in good form. Clare Russell, on the inside, began slowly and was snaffled back to last early, closed a tremendous gap in the last half and Is in grand form. Frank Gill ran as if short, tiring right at the end. Ravena laeked her usual speed and ran a very bad race for her. Penrhyn showed good early speed and was probably short. Preen likes mud. Expansionist maintained pursuit of the leader for a mile and a half and when the latter fell assumed command and won off, nothing being within hailing distance even of these two at the half. Caller, badly handled, moved up with a belated end rush and gamely earned second place. Tom Cogan, after trailing far In the rear for the first mile, came along with a fast closing end drive. Vestment was luckily placed throughout, but failed to stay. Oro ran well to the Liverpool In the last time around, where he was knocked out of it. Garterknot was leading by a wide gap when he fell at the nd of a mile and a half. Allegiance was moving up rapidly when he stumbled over the fallen horse at the Liverpool when beginning the last six furlongs and appeared like the winner at the time. Yankee Gun was in forward contention from the start, finished well under the whip and would have won in another stride. Paumonok, away poorly and messed about, eame-. like a cyclone from the rear and finished going two feet to the leaders one. Kentucky Beau ran well up all the way, but tired right at the end and seemingly has trained off. Toiirenne was closing jp with a rush on the outside at the end. Zambesi, away badly, closed a big gap. Oraculum failed to stay, but showed early speed. Killlecrankle was knocked back on the last turn and was going well at tho time. Bat Masterson got away poorly and was eased up in the stretch. Moonshine forced the early pace, but relinquished the lead at the half and came again gamely. California King ran well up and was coming at the end. Maxle Witt was sent into the lead and appeared all over the winner on the far turn when he went lame and fell back. Carew, off from a flying start, set the early pace, then relinquished his small lead to Leonard Joe Hayman, which he again passed in the stretch and then stood off Columbia Girls challenge at the end. The latter, away poorly and in close quarters in the early running, closed up fast on the last turn and In a belated stretch effort, failed to get up. Leonard Joe Hayman showed superior early speed and took the lead at the half and held his advantage to midway of the stretch, where he tired as if short. True Boy was forced out of position on the backstretch and never dangerous afterward. Red Light, away poorly, steadily improved her position and ran a good race. Miss Itillie, nearly left, closed a big gap and wants a longer race. Melbourne Nominee likes soft going. New Mown Hay seemed unable to raise a respectable gallop.
