HALMA BEST OF BREEDING BUREAU HORSES. Halma is by far the most important acquisition the Breeding Bureau of the Jockey Club lias received. He was one of the great racehorses of America. When owned and trained by the late Byron McClelland he was probably the peer of any racehorse of his day. He Is by Hanover, out of Julia L., by Longfellow. He was a great racehorse at two, three and five years old, winning the Phoenix Hotel Stakes at a mile and an eighth, the Kentucky Derby at a mile and a half, the Clark Stakes at a mile and a quarter, the Latonla Derby at a mile and a half, and many other great races. He was purchased from Byron McClelland by -the late Charles Fleischmaiin, of Cincinnati, becoming the property of Julius Fleischmaiin, from whom he was purchased by W. K. Vanderbilt for 0,000 and exported to France, where he headed Mr. Vanderbilts stud for the past four years. Before leaving this country he sired among other good horses Allan-a-Dale, now at the head of Thomas C. McDowells Ashland Stud, Lexington, Ky. In France Halma was an unqualified success, siring Malta and many other good race horses.
