PROPER THE SEASONS MEANEST HORSE. "Proper holds the palm for meanness at the post, and he generally manages to bump or kick soma other horse in the race until its chances are seriously affected," says the Morning Telegraph. "Coy Maid came in for the greater part of his thumps and bumps Monday, and so did Tiptoe, but the latter stood her ground and seemed disposed to kick back. Assistant starter Morrissey hung on to Propers bridle and was lifted off the ground several times. Every time he would get Proper in the correct position the horse would wheel around until his tall was draped gracefully over the barrier, having paid his respects with his hind hoofs to Tiptoe in the turning. Oxford and Inferno were two mean ones in this race. They seemed to entertain a peculiar antipathy for each other and wanted to fight. They did get together several times and bit and kicked and squealed as if they had been out in a windy lot Instead of saddled and bridled for a race. It is fact that horses of certain stables develop certain peculiar characteristics and habits. Mr. Jennings horses are nearly all mpan at the post. Proper is the worst and Bloudy is a close second, according; to the men who have to handle them. Cltrona, who carried the Jennings colors to second place in the sixth race, was another bad actor. She showed all sorts of meaness and time and again spoiled a good liue up for a-start."
