SUNDAY RACING AT BUTTE, MONTANA. The meeting at Butte, Montana, did not end Saturday last, as scheduled. There was racing Sunday afternoon. The meeting was originally announced to be of seventeen days. The opening day was August 21. August 22 it rained so hard that the otlicials decided not to race that afternoon. As a sort of consolation for the loss of this day to the owners the Sunday program was made up. Commenting upon the meeting, the Butte Miner says: "While there have hardly been sufilcleut runners here to make the meeting as good as it might have been, nevertheless the association may well feel pround of the showing made the first year. It spells success for future meetings and the mistakes made this year will be profited by In years to come, and everything points to a most prosperous season next year and for years to come. Handicapped by miserable weather during the first of the meeting, the association lost in attendance many thousands of dollars. When the weather finally did become settled, the attendance at the track Indicated that there was a great deal of Interest in the meeting and the betting was always brisk. The American record for three furlongs was twice broken. The success of the Butte meeting should have a good effect on the success of the Montana circuit as a whole, and there Is certainly a feeling to this. effect among the horsemen generally."
