Byzantine began slowly and, being on the outside, was forced to go around the leaders to get up, was carried wide on the turn out of the backstretch and again on the turn into the homestretch, but finished gamely under a drive and caught Kamerun tiring at the end. Kamerun began quickly and, setting the pace fast, held a good lead until in the last eighth, when he tired. Mamie Etta was hard ridden all the way in an effort to get to the leaders and ran a good race all the way. Country Lad was eased up when he tired. Gardiner Tyler stumbled and fell before they had gone a furlong. Hackler went fairly well. Scratched Big Star, 112. Overweights Loretto, 2J pounds; Gardiner Tyler, 2. " d. Kirkfield j Belle sprinted into a winning lead in the first furlong, led throughout and was only cantering at the end. Renewal moved up on the turn into the homestretch Into close contention and then tired and had to stand a hard drive ta the last sixteenth to stall off Kelpie. The latter was on the outside of the leaders until straightened out for the final run and finished fast. Edwin H., after being bumped back, closed up again and finished gamely under punishment. Aqua Tint closed a gap. Dulcie showed speed, but failed to stay. Scratched 04643 Vinegar Bill, 104. Blue Buck-began quickly and rushed to the front when the barrier was sprung and made most of his advantage, opening a long winning lead in the run down the backstretch, but the effort told on him at the end and he was tiring fast in the last sixteenth. Cambridge, as usual, dropped far back In the first half, but closed a big gap and finished with a great burst of speed. Reservation did his best and finished gamely. Water Pansy and Neva Welch made up a lot of ground in the last quarter. George Vivian finished close up, but tiring. Factotum was prominent at the head of the stretch, but quit badly. Diamond was taken under restraint and waited with until on the turn out of the backstretch before making his move, was forced to the outside fence by Toots Mook while rounding the far turn and again when entering the homestretch, but finished fast and gamely through the last furlong. Deuce slipped through next to the inside rail in the run through the homestretch and finished with a rush. Toots Mook set a fast pace and, running a great race, lasted longer than usual. Cholk Hedrlck saved ground on the home turn, where he came through on the inside. Gold Enamel finished well. La Gloria showed early speed, but ran much below her best form. Sir Ralph was waited with until on the turn into the homestretch before moving up. then caught and passed Wexford and was well in hand at the finish. Wexford moved up -fast on the far turn and raced Ballotta into defeat, but had nothing left when Sir Ralph challenged. Ballotta was tiring at the end after showing great early speed.
