Jpckey Nicols ride on Tom Dolan, favorite in the fifth race, was severely criticised by the onlookers and the judges also thought it a bad one. When interrogated, Nicol claimed to have met with interference during the final stretch drive, and was let off with a sharp reprimand. "Red" Walker attempted a coup with Petit Due iii the second race, backing him from 30 to 1 to 12 to 1 at post time. The colt barely failed to beat out French Nun for the purse. The judges let the matter rest with the explanation. For rough riding in the second race jockey Mountain was fined 5 by the judges. Jockey F. Hiidebrand was suspended for six days by the starter for failure to get away from the post with the remainder of the field in the last race.
