Frank Gill, on the outside, ran in closest pursuit to the last furlong, where he swerved to the inside, which cost him second place. Airs ran well, but could never get up into serious contention. P. ran an erratic ii-ace, refused and bolted several times, showed good speed, but the course was too far and difficult. Woolgatherer was hopelessly outpaced.
