There was nothln? to enthuse over in the racing . at Latonia this afteruoon. Excepting the steeplechase, the races were framed with selling conditions, and brought out poor fields. The betting element, however, seemed to have no trouble in locating a basis for speculation on the six races and the fifteen bookmakers a decrease of" two from, yesterday were kept busy. Favorites only succeeded n capturing two purses. The failure of the other four enabled many of the layers to recoup some of the losses sustained on the opening day. The feature race produced - the chief upset of the afternoon, Dell Leath, lightly regarded, -winning all the way from Frank Mc. The latter, wore , down Maverick In the stretch and got Second place. The judges were dissatisfied with the manner in which Porter handled Maverick and suspended him indefinitely. Close observers also condemned the ride before judicial action was taken. Fabian had a bad fall at the. fourth jump in the steeplechase. His . rider appeared to have sustained serious Injury, but after regaining consciousness was none the worst for his tumble. W. S. Kansas Price bid up the winner Of the first race from his entered price of 00 to , but failed to get him. Jockey C. Morris was lined 5 by the Judges, for impeding Layson in the second race. But for the incident Layson would have won. Jockey C. H. Shilling carried off the riding honors by piloting three winners. This boy Is regarded by many owners as the best lightweight at the track. Arrivals from Louisville continue, Hall and Marshall and J. C. Shannon being the latest. Edward Cor-rlgan and M. J. Daly will transfer a number of horses tomorrow from the Falls City. Arthur Elrod, who had charge of the betting ring at the nine day meeting held recently at Scranton, Pa., was among todays visitors. He says there will be a circuit formed next year consisting of Scranton, Pa., Wilkesbarre, Pa., BInghamton, N. Y., Utlca, N. Y. and Rochester, N. Y- Each of these tracks can, under the law hold six day meetings twice a year. It is intended to have sixty days of racing, allowing two meetings for each track. Theodore Coleman, of Scranton, Pa., is backing the project. Purses will range from 50 to 00 and the intention of the promoters is to give five races dally. "Pa" Bradley was the biggest winner at the Scranton meeting. He had fifteen horses at the track. An average of six bookmakers did busi- ness and received libeal wagering from the miners that chiefly made up the attendance that witnessed the sport.
