Cressina, bumped at the start and nearly left, closed a big early gap and was forced into the deep going in the last quarter, but earned a game third. Tommy Waddell, away well .on the outside, was steadily taken back, but moved up sharply on the far ,turn and appeared promising when straightened for home, but failed to get up under an astonishingly weak finish. Fish Hawk was in nearest pursuit of the winner for seven furlongs in the worst going before he tired. The others were far outclassed.
