New York, January 17. — Tom Welshs stables at Gravesend house more than one horse that Is practically sure to be heard from this season in a big way. Naturally Running Water is the most promin- J out. This good filly wound up the season with victory in the Hdgemere Stakes and was one of the best and most consistent performers of 1JKMJ. She won seven races after the Newcastle Stable paid 5,000 for tier and Content at Saratoga, six of them lieing stakes. In winter quarters Running Water has thickened . ami spread into a really grand looking mare. She retired sound, and the Newcastle Stable can look I bee with great confidence as one of the stars of r the coming season. Running Water showed last . fall that all distances are alike to her and that, . she Is a splendid weight carrier. She was not . named for the Brooklyn, her first important engagement being the Suburban. This would indicate that she will not he hurried, but that her earlier races will be preparatory to the Sheepshead Bay race, always providing, of course, that the weight assigned her is satisfactory. She is the mainstay of the stable and the older division, but In J. C. Core, McCarter and Momentum the stable has a trio of three vear-olds that will i surely prove useful if nothing more, and it would be little surprise if J. C. Core is much more than merely useful. He Is a very fast horse, and has Improved so much with his long let-up he was retired very early, that he is sure to take a high . place among the sprinters at any rate. Momentum. while onlv a plater, is a consistent one, as his record of eleven winning races last year will show. McCarter may not be quite high class, but is liable to keep the topnotchers busy to beat him.
