VAN NESS HAS LUCK IN HANDICAP. Grace G. Is Poorly Ridden and Collector Jes-sup Is Unfit— Oakland Racinq News. Oakland. Cal.. February -J6. — A BM diocre card of six races sms decided today. The track was slow ami deceptive and live-outsiders again scored. Despite ideal weather conditions, the attendance was far below the average of preceding weeks. Van Ness won a lucky victory in the handicap at six furlongs, fourth on the card. Grace G., the runner up, was badly ridden by Sandy. Collector Jessup, the favorite, was palpably unlit and finished a distant third. W. O. Joplin and jockey Koerner are expected here from Los Angeles tomorrow. Logistllla will not be among the starters for the Waterhouse Cup on Saturday. Hildreth has retired the mare for the season. J. W. Blalock has brought Confessor. adichon. Bonnie Reg. Jack Kereheville and Maxim Gorky from Los Angeles. B. West has gone back to Los Angeles with Silver Wedding and Money Muss. The former fell lame in her last start. The track tomorrow will be heavy and holding, but there are mud runners in profusion here with such good ones among those named to start as: Albia. Billy Watkins. Bajaroita: Shady Lad, Pal, Fred Bent; Iras, Isabellta. Inflammable; Edwin Gum. Ramus. Dusty Miller; Dollie Dollars, Corn Blossom, E. M. Brattain; Northwest, Sahara and Laura F. M. H. Forsland.
