Over night the track dried out considerable and by the time racing began it was altmr good and improving as the afternoon progressed. The principal offering was the fourth race which brought together a good band of sprinters at three quarters of a mile. A keen contest was expcited. but much interest was taken from the race by tin- nrhd off. It was starter CassidyS poorest rffortjdlf the meeting. Ralbert was away running while™rhe principal contenders were in a tangle. Jake Sanders made a desperate effort to overhaul tiie leader, but failed nearly a length.. Willi an even start he would have won easily. C. II. Shilling, ridden by the jockey for wheat he was named, in the opening race, was discarded ill favor of Financier, which had shown well in trials at Memphis. C. H. There is no anestlea that Financier is the lietter colt ami win n he hares what is wanted of him he will develop Into a star. Austin was lined 850 by the starter for disoUdience at the post in the fourth race. Bess Ward, the star two-year-old filly in J. C. Milams stable, has go/ie amiss and her trainer fears that it will lie some tome before she will again be in good condition to race. The order barring Btaiplsrh from starting here has been rescinded.
