DANDELION WINS HANDICAP HITCHCOCK HORSE LOOMS UP AS A FACTOR FOR THE BROOKLYN. Transvaal Takes the Maiden Stakes— Dinna Ken Scores for the Whitney Stable — Jockey Garner Is Injured. New York. May 1.1.— One favorite. «two second ehoices and three outsiders won the program at Belmont Park today and the ring had much the best of tin- spallation. The only winner heavily hacked was Dandelion, about which die odds were cut from 4 to 1 to 11 to 5, though lie never quite supplanted Good Luck as the favorite. Dandelion ran a smash lug good race. He had up 120 pounds and, after following the early leaders closely, came on in the tlnal quarter to win cantering. It was a first dm trial for the Brooklyn Handicap, where his impost is IIS pounds. Dandelion has never l»een an early horse mid seems to have MM to himself sooner this MM than ever tiefore. He will lie one of the choices for the Brooklyn unless there is some unexpected development during the week. The factors for the Brooklyn now look like Go Between. Dandelion and Tokalon. The invading westerners were in evidence in the first two races. V. F. Sehultes Zienap at 12 to 1. beating Kings Daughter and Tanya in the opening race, while Barney. Schreibers Minnie Q. at 15 to 1, made a runaway affair of the second race. It was a ridiculously false price about Minnie G. Her last race was a smart one. Marbles, the favorite for this race, swerved into the fence at the start throwing Garner, tine of the bones of the riders left hand was broken and he will be laid up for uoine weeks. He will Ik? missed as he was riding ill excellent form. Tanya was a sad disappointment in her race. This high class mare, after running with Kings Daughter to the tinal furlong, failed badly. It ain? h» that she has liecn babied atace meeting with a slight mishap previous to the running of the Metr H« HtHii. Mr. Whitney had tietter luck in the third race, which was won by Dinna Ken. he being the first winner of the season for this stable. Ver-vane. a half sister to Delhi, was heavily backed for this ra-e. She had worked fast and her party was confident, but Vcrvane went in the air when the start came and was the same as left, so the Rainey Garth s|ie]I of ill luck remains unbroken. Transvaal was much the best iu the Maiden Stakes, but was overlooked in the rush to back McGregor, which had shown a good performance under discouraging conditions at Jamaica. S. W. Streett is here. His stable has been shipiied o I.atonia and the Doctor came east for a rest until the meeting opens there, and with the possible intention of buying a few horses if the material can lie found. Entree, which was heavily backed for the closing race, pulled up very lame and is on the verge of a breakdown. The Harlem State! at ■ mile, under selling conditions, is the main feature of tomorrows card and with such excellent racers as Thermidor, Banridge, Dennis Stafford: l ng Ball. Divorcee. Twigs: Dandelion, V. H. Carey, Noalon: Pretension, Ampedo, Juggler: Mr. McCann. Baunell. Navajo; Mintberia. Barbary Belle, and Ace High included among the entries a heavy attendance is to lie expected.
