TWO JOCKEYS INJURED AT OAKLAND. W. Kelly and Appleby In a Bad Spill— Kcr-cheval Is Shipped East. Oakland. CM., May 13. -Today marked the lieginning of the six weeks extension of the Oak land racing season, as under the schedule an iioimeed at the opening last Novenilier the meet tag would have ended last Saturday, the hundriHl and fifty first day. The prospects are for good sport, as practically all the horses are to remain here to the close. June 22. and again the action of the stewards in punishing some offenders will have a wholesome effect. The car strike did not make such a difference with the attendance last week as it was feared. Barring a had accident in the third lace, the sport today was entirely satisfactory. In that race Lucrcce and Tarrigan went down on the far turn and jockeys W. Kelly and Appleby were acrl oiisly injured. One of the horses stepped on Kelly. fright fully crushing his face. Appleby had three ribs broken. Kerelieval. Dusty Miller. Confessor and C.idichon were shipiied to New York this morning. Korche vals career on the local track was unique and sen sational. He scored a victory in all of his three starts, each time the medium of a tremendous coup. His connections seemingly regard hiin as a moral certainty for the Brooklyn Handicap. Nothing great is promised by the program lac to morrow, but the horses in the various races lass well together and St. Avon, Irish Mike. Rustier: Distributor. Speaker Fontana, Salable: Instructor. Koscoe. Alice Cary: Bcniay, Pal. Bill Mayhani; Silver Sue. E. M. Ill al lata. Peggy ONeal; Lord of the Yale, Cabin and Galvcstonian among the entries, the sport may prove quite entertaining. II.
