FINNEGAN MAY NEVER RIDE AGAIN. Is in a Serious Condition as Result of His Fall Thursday— Artful Is All Right. New York. May 1.!. — Steeplechase Jockey Gone Finnegan is in a precarious condition as the result of his fall witli Fa 1 la been in the New York Steeplechase at Belmont Park last Thursday. There was a report at the track this afternoon that lie bad died, but this proved untrue. His physicians say that it will lie a long time before he recovers fully and they doubt if he will ever be able to ride again. Some of the work watchers at Sliecpsliead Bay circulated the Teport that Artful had broken down. Trainer Kogers says there is no truth in this. He says the mare is going atisfactorlly to him and that he will keep tec in training. He is petattag her for the Brighton Handicap. Banner, in the stable of T. C. McDowell, will soon be ready for a race. James MeCormick has his useful horse Tileing nearly back in form, since giving the colt a let-up from the New Orleans campaign. His recent work has teea more than satis factory to his astute trainer. Melbourne Nominee has lieen doing all that trainer Wiuslow has :i-ked of him. Six furlongs in 1:2:!* is his latest move. Grapple has been working well for several days and the way he stopped off seven furlongs in 1:10 Indicates that he is ready for the races any time now . John Shields has George S. Davis going along splendidly.
