LEONORA LORING IS DEAD. E. B. Thomas Leonora Loring, winner of the Ureal Filly Stakes of P.tOl, is dead at Holmdel Farm, in New Jersey. By her death Mr. Thomas loses a valuable matron. He paid 0.fKMt for Leonora Loring at the executors sale of the Whit ney estate and he expected to get some high -cteae horses from her. A foal of I8M, Leonora Loring was the best horse Dr. MacBride ever sent to the races. She was bought as a yearling by the late John Daly and L. M. Meyers ami ate raced under the silks of Mr. Meyers. She was contemporaneous with Blue iirl. Heno. Yankee. Nastutium. Endur anoe by Bight, i.iintire and Goldsmith, and not one of them could outrun her as a two year old. She had a remarkable turn of speed and iu the Great Filly Stakes at Sheepshead she defeated Blue Girl after a stiff tight through the stretch. The late William C. Whitney, who owned Blue Iirl. never forgave Shaw for his ride on Blue iirl in that race. He told the jockey in the paddock after the finish that he did not lKdicve he tried to win. Later Mr. Whitney protested Leonora Lorings victory on the ground that she had been improperly entered and his protest was sustained by the stew ards of the Coney Island Jockey Clubs meeting. The first money. .3,975, was awarded to Blue iirl.
