WILL IMPROVE THE COURSE. New York. May 21.— It is the hope of nap II in tendeiit Gorman that he will have a perfect steeplechase course for the October meeting at Belmont Park. In order to get a growth of sod the course was heavily manured last winter and while this had the effect of bringing out the grass and doing away with the dust that was such a menace to cross-country sport the first year of racing over it. the footing is insecure and deep in spots. The bad *pot in the course near the jump in the middle of the turn to which the defeat of Good and Plenty was attributed, is due to this system of treating the course. Immediately after the close of the second spring meeting the top dressing of the course will be removed. It will be replaced with a linn foundation, which will be heavily sodded.
