PUTTING ON THE FINISHING TOUCHES. Empire City Track Will Be Ready for the Opening Next Saturday. New York, August 5. A large force of workmen was busy putting on the linishing touches at the Umpire City track today. The new field stand is practically finished and is getting a coat of paint. A jockeys building, timers stand and an ollice for the racing secretary near the paddock have also been completed. The betting ring under the main grandstand has been enlarged and is covered with a tarpaulin roof. A covered board walk has been built fioni lie trolley loop back of the clubhouse, past the paddock, directly into the grandstand, so that racegoers can tiud shelter in stormy weather as soon as they step olf the cars. The loop, which will cost UHio. will be finished in a day or two and will be large enough to handle all the cars that the Union Railway cares to run to the track from Woodlawn by way of Jerome avenue. Manager Winn lias already expended nearly 0.-O0O in improvements. He said yesterday that the accommodations for the public would be unexcelled and that the track when opened would compare favorably with any on the Jockey Clubs circuit. Many horses from Latouia, St. I.ouis and other western points are now on the way to Yonkers, the secretary reports. The track will- not he in the care of the Iinkertons. as several former Central Ollice men will take charge of the police arrangements. "We will have some tine racing." said Manager Winn, "ami as the Jockey Club lias sanctioned our meeting, we cannot see how horsemen can remain away when wo intend to distribute more than 0.-000 in stakes and purses during the eighteen days of sport that have been allotted to us." Jacob lloltman. who will handle the barrier at. Yonkers, has arrived from Cincinnati with his assistants.
