NOTES OF THE TURF. William Engstrom, it is said, is about 0,000 out of pocket on his liooking operations at Seattle. Robert Pinkerton, who has charge of the ioliciug at the New York tracks, will sail August S for a Khort trip to EuroiH!. W. Grayson purchased Reeves from Dan Lamas-ney Saturday. He will ship him to Hamilton, where he will he schooled for steeplechasing. William Walker, having become dissatisfied with jockey Lycurgus riding, says he will keep the boy on the ground for a week or ten days. Jockey W. R. Walker is seriously ill at his home in St. "Louis. His trouble is typhoid fever, contracted shortly after the close of the Hamilton meeting. Jockeys J. McFadden, J. Lines and W. Russell were seriously injured when their mounts fell in a race at Colorado Springs last Friday. McFaddens condition is criticaL Red Bird, a noted Colorado quarter horse, fell and broke his neck in a race at City Park, Denver, last week. His owner, C. II. Skerritt, was riding the horse. Mr. Skerritt is in the hospital with a broken nose and other injuries. R. J. Mackenzie of the Kirkfield Stable has leased the racing qualities of the following horses to W. P. Frascr for the remainder of this year; Tourcnne, John Ross, Battleford, Sherring, Margot and Lady Kismet. The last named five are two-year-olds.
