CHARLIE EASTMANS EASY VICTORY. Gardners Himyar Gelding Takes the Star Number at Fort Erie. Buffalo, X. Y., August 1". An average card of six races furnished entertainment for the patrons of the Fort Erie track today. The fourth race at three-quarters of a mile served as a feature and was won easily by the speedy Charlie Eastman, the favorite, from Frontenac, with The Belle third. The recent decision of the club to give no purse less than 400 is beginning to demonstrate its bettering inlluence upon racing at this center and while only six races now comprise an afternoons card, a much better class of horses is attracted and naturally the public is afforded safer means of speculating. It is now said that Denham is suffering from pneumonia and that his recovery is doubtful. The Pasadena Stable lias purchased Dele Strome and Bellmence from L. A. Celia. The price for the two was .,000. 1. Buford is now the owner of the two-year-old Kitty Smith. He bought her from J. W. Pangle for 00. L. A. Celia has taken a contract on jockey V. Powers, who has improved much in his riding. Seven horses belonging to Joseph James arrived at Fort Erie from Windsor yesterday afternoon. Jockey Aubuchon is the latest addition to the riding ranks. He came in front Denver Monday. - Awawegang and Miss Gaiety struck themselves In racing yesterday.
